Wiiiiiind!

Holy Moly it was windy today for the entire drive. We left the uber busy Grand Canyon around 7am. There were so many people there from all over the world. Mom was getting pissed at the German and Asian people pushing us in the buffet line for breakfast.... I told her that's how they are and YES it can be VERY annoying!

I drove the first 7 hours of I-40. Nothing, nothing, nothing. Just semis and wind.
Lots of wind. Dust and tumbleweeds greeted us around every corner through the vast desert. I didn't take this route coming out west so I didn't really have an idea of how deserted it is. It was cool though. Mom and I chilled and told jokes to pass the time in between Leslie and the Ly's and Bluegrass on the radio. Mom took over for the last 4 hours from Albuquerque to Armadillo (really Amarillo), TX where we are staying for the night.

We was surprised to find that there are wind turbines in Texas but no where else. The Socialist said "we could have energy for FREE!!!"., the Capitalist said "we could SELL it!!!". Can you guess who said what??? Whatever our use, we both agreed that there was a lot of wind power being wasted in most of that desert. I have no idea why it's unharnessed, seems pretty wasteful to us.

We got to the hotel we thought we had reserved and there was only someone staying there by the name of Ronald Wortham! I know that there is a Wortham Center for the Arts in Houston, but I didn't think there were a lot of distant relatives of ours here. I guess that is a good vibe! Anyway that hotel didn't have our resso which created some unneeded tension in the car after such a long drive. I had a cigarette while Mom went in to check in to a place around the corner. All is good.

Bonsai is not really eating and I had to buy baby Tylenol with a dropper top. I've been forcing her to drink water with it which she is obviously NOT stoked on. I even bought her some tuna which she is still sketchy on. Now we're in yet another strange place and she is hiding behind the bed. She did pee once yesterday so that was a good sign if a small one. Last night she went crazy around 2am yowling in the hotel room. She was all over the place meowing and running about. At one point she jumped from the bed to the top of a curtain which was almost ceiling high. She hit the floor and didn't try that one again. I gave her a 1/2 & 1/2 that we had "borrowed" from the pizza joint which she lapped up happily. Eventually she quieted down and I found her hidden in a drawer (one of her favorite spots to hide) this morning. We're a little worried about her but know that she IS a cat and this is totally strange for her. I think she's going to be just fine once we are settled.

We were going to split the trip up to end up in Memphis tomorrow night, which would leave us with another 10-11 hour drive on Friday but we decided that it would probably be better to get more of it out of the way tomorrow, then we can chill more in Chuck when we get there. So we'll probably stay in Tupelo, Mississippi tomorrow night, which is funny since this is the point where on my drive west at 2am I got behind the wheel and ended up driving all night through Oklahoma. I remember that sunrise like it was yesterday :)

Wow, the adventure continues, and it sounds like your quite the "team". How funny was that, another Wortham taking your room ! If I had read your blog carefully, I would have figured out the part about the tylenol. Glad it was just water and the girl is cooperating. Take good care, Love, Max&Co.

You're past the great town of Wortham, Tx just south of Ft. Worth where some kin went.

What a trip! Dan did that once too and spoke of those wide wild open spaces. Some day....
